SAEON appoints Special Advisor on Information Management
|
Judith Kruger of the South African National Parks (SANParks) has been appointed as SAEON's Special Advisor on Information Management based on her long association with SAEON, her keen interest in seeing the Network succeed and her specialist knowledge of eco-informatics.
Eco-informatics is a new science globally, and with eco-data management systems only now being put in place by a handful of leading countries, SAEON is confronted with the real challenge of getting its data management systems and networks up and running to create a comprehensive archive for long-term ecosystem observations over extended periods of time. The success of this venture depends on people skilled in ecological data and network management.
Judith is responsible for information management in the Kruger National Park as well as in the Savannah cluster of national parks. She was also the data manager for the Kruger National Park Rivers Research Programme which was funded by the Water Research Commission in the 1990s. With her experience and expertise in long-term monitoring and data management, Judith will become a key player in assisting SAEON to get best-practice data management systems established.
As Special Advisor she will be expected to make a positive contribution to the development and maintenance of SAEON's national information management infrastructure and processes. The scope of advice would include all of the strategic, technical and operational issues and advice will be offered as written documentation, meeting inputs, assessments, referrals, training sessions or presentations. Judith will work closely with Avinash Chuntharpursat, SAEON's Information Management Coordinator and all the data managers at the nodes.
Judith Kruger and SAEON have a shared vision: they want to facilitate the creation of eco-data management systems and archives for reliable, long-term information; information that will inform decision-making aimed at safeguarding the future of our planet.
Welcome to SAEON, Judith!
