SAEON @ INSITE 2008

SAEON, one of the founder exhibitors of South Africa's International Science, Innovation and Technology Exhibition (INSITE), once again participated in this biennial exhibition organised by the Department of Science and Technology.
The SAEON exhibition was housed within the National Research Foundation (NRF) pavilion, which also represented most of the other national facilities of the NRF, including the South African Institute for Aquatic Biodiversity (SAIAB), South African Astronomical Observatory (SAAO) and South African Agency for Science and Technology Advanacement (SAASTA).
INSITE is an international showcase for Science, Innovation & Technology in the form of innovations, products, technologies, services and solutions. The exhibition provides networking opportunities across industries that enable experts in science and technology from across the globe to identify joint objectives, activities and initiatives.
There is also a strong focus on the youth with the aim of promoting careers in science, innovation and technology. Over the three days of INSITE 2008, large numbers of senior learners and university students took the opportunity to assess how scientific principles are translated into commercially viable technologies.
INSITE 2008 attracted more exhibitors than ever this year and visitor attendance was representative of global and local business, as well as senior learners and academics. Several countries exhibited at INSITE 2008, with Germany and China alone bringing in around 120 companies and research institutes.
In his opening address Mr Mosibudi Mangena, Minister of Science and Technology, emphasised the importance of applying science and technology to practical problems, so as to encourage economic growth and address poverty.
