SAEON Egagasini’s Dr Juliet Hermes receives honorary research associateship

A singular honour was bestowed on Dr Juliet Hermes, Manager of the SAEON Egagasini Node for marine-offshore systems earlier this year when she was made an honorary research associate with the University of Cape Town (UCT), the youngest associate in the Oceanography Department.

The appointment enables a person of high academic standing to continue with his/her research at the university and to interact with other members of staff. The appointment also entitles the incumbent rights of access to library, sporting, social and parking facilities as enjoyed by members of the university staff.

In her response to the appointment Juliet said, “I'm very happy to be made an honorary research associate, this will allow me to cement the already strong ties I have with UCT's Oceanography Department and I'm sure that both SAEON and UCT will gain from this relationship."

Johan Pauw, Head of SAEON, congratulated Juliet and said “the appointment complies with the NRF’s notion that research staff at its National Facilities should be involved in Higher Education and ideally hold a joint appointment”.

The associateship is for the period 1 January 2008 to 31 December 2010.
