• Assume overall responsibility for the proper functioning of SAEON's national office and six nodes
• Provide strategic and technical leadership in the planning, execution and monitoring of new and existing initiatives and programmes
• Ensure that SAEON is adequately funded and that all financial and physical resources are utilised in an efficient and prudent manner
• Bear final responsibility for the appointment and management of staff
• Bear final responsibility for budgeting and management of financial and physical resources
• Contribute to the strategic leadership of the National Research Foundation group
