- An article entitled "NMMU teams up with the big fish in research" on the new partnership between the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU), the South African Environmental Observation Network (SAEON) and the South African Institute for Aquatic Biodiversity (SAIAB), appeared in The Herald of 27 August 2013.
- An article entitled "Algoabaai gaan baat by nuwe navorsingsvennoot" (Algoa Bay to benefit from new research partner), also on the new partnership between NMMU, SAEON and SAIAB, appeared in Die Burger of 27 August 2013.
- Articles on the partnership also appeared in Financial Mail Essentials, the SANCOR newsletter and the electronic newsletter of the NMMU Faculty of Science.
- MSc students Luke Bodmann and Tristan Duthie, and PhD student Kate Strachan are mentioned in an article entitled "Young researchers represent UKZN at SAEON-GSN Indibano conference", which appeared in UKZNDABA Online, the electronic newsletter of the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN). Duthie was awarded the prize for Best Poster Presentation at the Indibano for her poster titled: "Modelling Modern Pollen Dispersal and Preposition Characteristics of Vegetation Communities of the Cathedral Peak area, KwaZulu-Natal Drakensberg".
