An article titled Welwitschia’s Water Sources, written by Dr Joh Henschel, Manager of SAEON’s Arid Lands Node, was published in Report 51 of the Scientific Society of Swakopmund, Namibia.

The following articles written by SAEON associates and interns were published in Prince Albert Friend newspaper:

An article on the first-ever Google Earth Engine workshop to be held in South Africa was published on Stellenbosch University’s website on 12 July 2019. The workshop was sponsored by SAEON.

An article co-written by SAEON’s Professor Juliet Hermes, titled A Sustained Ocean Observing System in the Indian Ocean for Climate Related Scientific Knowledge and Societal Needs, was published in the July 2019 Bulletin of CLIVAR (Climate and Ocean: Variability, Predictability and Change).

Oceanographic researcher Katherine Hutchinson, a former PhD candidate at SAEON’s Egagasini Node (left), made two videos on board this year’s SEAmester-ASCA cruise, South Africa's class afloat. The first is a mini-documentary showcasing some of the research being done on the Agulhas Current by a few of South Africa's foremost young ocean scientists, including three SAEON scientists. The second is Sailing on a Dream: Adventures of a MiniBoat. It tells the story of a MiniBoat being launched into the Agulhas Current – one of the strongest currents in the world. The deployment took place during SEAmester. The MiniBoat will sail the high seas and students from all around the world will follow its course, learning about winds and ocean currents.
