- The launch of South Africa’s BioEnergy Atlas project on 24 March 2017 resulted in media coverage on national television, national radio as well as in several online and print publications, including:

- South Africa’s first Bio-atlas launched on ee.co.za
- South Africa launches bio-energy atlas in Biofuels Digest
- The news of the Atlas was also well-received on social media (@Saeonews).
- An article titled First of its kind Bio-atlas indicates SA’s higher than expected bio-energy potential also featured on the website of the Department of Science and Technology.
- The SAEON Fynbos Node’s research was highlighted in an article titled Cape Town's Taps Could Really Run Dry that was published in GroundUp (All Africa.com) and on News24.com.
- An article by Dr Jasper Slingsby, Vegetation Scientist at the SAEON Fynbos Node, was published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS). The article essentially finds the first evidence of a climate change impact on Fynbos biodiversity, but also highlights an interaction between fire and climate change that is concern for flammable ecosystems around the world (e.g. California's chaparral, Australia's kwongan, etc). The study resulted in media coverage in several online and print publications, including:
